1 . Imperial city / without Imperial city .Hue Imperial City was constructed between 1805 and 1832 on an expansive area of more than 5 square kilometers on the northern bank of Perfume River. Nguyen emperors had used thousands of laborers to build this mighty citadel, encompassing three circles of ramparts: the Defensive Fort (Capital City), the Imperial City and the Forbidden Purple City. Unfortunately, much of them were ravaged by typhoons and wars. The government has recently shown an enormous determination to restore their lost grandeur. Though not much has been done so far, the relics in themselves still have a little for everyone. Even if you are not keen on architecture or history, you should not miss a relaxing wander around the site.

2. Thien Mu pagoda . The seven-tiered Thien Mu Pagoda is an iconic pagoda in Vietnam. It is set in luxuriant gardens on Ha Khe Hill, around 4km from Hue’s centre. Legend has it that around the time of Trinh-Nguyen civil war (16th -17th century), local people usually saw an old woman appearing on the hill. She announced that one day a lord would come to the site and construct a Buddhist pagoda that would bring peace and prosperity to the country. Nguyen Hoang Lord, who controlled South Vietnam at that time, was inspired by the story and he gave his order to build the pagoda in 1601 and named it Thien Mu or Celestial Lady Pagoda.

3. Tu Duc tombs . Tomb of Tu Duc is nestled in a vast pine forest in Thuong Ba Village, around 7km from Hue’s centre. It covers an extensive area of 12 hectares with nearly 50 constructions, including lakes, mounts, palaces, pavilions, temples, altars, etc. The complex is also well protected by a thick wall curving around the hillsides. Different from other somber tombs, Tomb of Tu Duc offers a romantic and relaxing ambiance as it also incorporates some buildings for the king’s residency.
